Victorian Wage Theft Legislation Passed

News Fash – any Victorian employers that fail to pay employee entitlements (including super) will now face criminal sanctions and substantial fines of up to $991,320 and 10 years jail. Yesterday Victoria became the first state in Australian to introduce and pass such laws. To enforce the law the Government is deploying Inspectors and new record keeping requirements for employers.

Word of warning. Many businesses may think the ATO is a bit of a soft touch on these matters but in our experience State Governments are considerably less forgiving. So if you don’t pay staff super and are based in Victoria then you can expect fines heading your way.
